Office of Legal Affairs & Policy
In pursuit of leadership and progress, UAEU is engaged in a wide range of sophisticated activities that require legal advice. Our job at the Office of Legal Affairs and Policy is to provide the University with legal opinion and legal representation through three main units:
- Litigation Unit: The experts working at this unit are specialized in handling litigation and arbitration cases that involve the university. Their task includes preparing necessary legal documents and collecting the necessary evidence from the relevant organs inside and outside the university. This unit also undertakes the coordination with outside lawyers in the case that the university decides to go for outsourcing. This unit also revises the decision of disciplinary boards and commissions of inquiry to ensure compliance with due process requirements.
- Contracts and Agreements Unit: The experts working at this unit are specialized in contract law matters. They review general and special conditions for tenders and contracts concluded by the University. They also review draft agreements and memoranda of understanding. They also play a key role in determining legal risks that may arise out of contractual instruments that involve the university as a party.
- Legislation and Policy Unit: The experts working at this unit review draft regulations, policies, and procedures prepared by the different organs inside the university. They also work toward ensuring that all draft bylaws are in harmony with higher legislation in force in the country. This unit holds a database for the legislations, policies and procedures in force at the university, monitors its updating according to the new amendments. The experts working at this unit provide opinions and legal advice regarding the application of the laws, regulations, policies and administrative decisions issued thereon.
