Overview
The Academic Affairs Unit (AAU) has been established in September 2017 as a central entity to the mission of UAEU. The wide spectrum of the activities and functions of the unit demonstrate its commitment and dedication to supporting faculty members and students in all academic aspects of their pursuit of knowledge. The AAU is charged by the Provost with assuring high standards of undergraduate and graduate academic programs, and designing and implementing effective policies and procedures to achieve this. The unit is responsible for ensuring compliance with these policies and procedures with respect to:
- The establishment of new undergraduate and graduate academic programs or their components, and
- The modifications to established undergraduate and graduate academic programs or their components.
The implementation of these policies and procedures is also delegated, in part, to faculty members through the University Program and Curriculum Committee (UPCC), Graduate Program and Curriculum Sub-Committee (GPCS), or the University General Education Committee (UGEC), whose chairs are appointed by the Provost. The establishment or modification of undergraduate and graduate academic programs is subject to approval of the College Council, the UPCC, the Academic Council, and the University Council depending on the nature of the proposal as defined in the Signatory Authority (Undergraduate, Graduate)
The Academic Affairs Unit also manages the UAEU institution-wide online curriculum management system (CurricUNET). In addition, the main functions and activities of the AAU include, but not limited to, the following:
- Overseeing the implementation of the Academic Advising System (Degree Works).
- Academic collaboration with national and international universities
- Review of the academic contents of MOUs
- Development of the University Academic Calendar and the Academic Affairs Calendar.
- Institutional and Programmatic Accreditation
- Liaison with Vice Chancellor’s Office, the Institutional Effectiveness Office, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), the Continuing Education Center (CEC), and all Colleges for academic matters.
