What is the role of an originator?

This person will be responsible to initiate the first step of the curriculum approval process that will be routed through the departments and colleges before coming to UPCC or the Graduate Council. And he/she will mainly create a proposal to modify/delete/create a course or a program for either graduate or undergraduate level.

Therefore, he/she should have enough information to start the workflow process. Nothing begins if they don’t start the processes. And they are the only one who will decide when to launch or delete a proposal.

What is the role of a Department Chair?

The faculty member approved by the college to serve as the chair for a designated period of time or indefinitely. He will have the action to approve, cancel or request a change for a proposal submitted.

What is the role of a Committee Member?

Any member who has been selected to review all curriculum proposals for the college/department before they are submitted to the next level of the approval workflow. His action is either to approve or recommend changes.

What is the role of College Curriculum Committee Chair?

The Dean designates a faculty to serve in this role. His action will be to approve or recommend course and program changes only.

What is the role of Arabic Translator Reviewer?

Any member of the faculty who has this role within a particular department or a college to review the Arabic contents for the program and the course. His action is to review Arabic content only.

What is the role of College Council Chair?

The Dean of the college serves this role for the college. This is the role that serves as the final approver for a college before a proposal is submitted to the University Program Committee Council (UPCC) or Graduate Studies Council (GSC) or General Education Committee.

What are the different undergraduate approval Levels?

A proposal can go through different approval levels listed below depending on proposal type chosen. Those proposals are designed based on university program and course policy.

What are the different graduate approval Levels?

A proposal can go through different approval levels listed below depending on proposal type chosen. Those proposals are designed based on university program and course policy.

Approval levels:

How are courses and programs structured in the college?

Each college has departments that have programs and courses associated with it. For example, College of Business and Economics has the following departments:

• Accounting
• Statistics
• Economics
• Business Administration
• Management Information Systems

Now each will have their own programs and courses that they are responsible for. For example, The Accounting Department has courses such as ACCT  211, ACT 235, ACCT 245,…. etc.. And they have both an undergraduate program (Bachelor of Accounting) and a graduate program (Master of Professional Accounting). So the structure will be like this:

• College -> Departments > Courses and Programs
