Overview
The Department of Mathematical Sciences is devoted to the study and development of the mathematical disciplines both in pure and applied areas of mathematics. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics where students are required to complete a total of 120 credit hours.
The department has devised a modified mathematics curriculum that achieves an adequate balance between depth and breadth of knowledge. The modified curriculum incorporates an academic internship component with a professional working opportunity to develop a comprehensive integrated learning and work internship program. This is an excellent opportunity for mathematics majors to experience different working opportunities and obtain professional experience.
At the graduate level, the department offers MSc and PhD programs in several areas of advanced mathematics including pure and applied mathematics. Students are encouraged to participate in the departments scientific activities such as weekly seminars and workshops, and extracurricular activities such as the Math Club, Math Help Center and Annual Math Days. It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Mathematical Sciences and I invite you to explore our website.
Vision
To be a leading mathematics program in the region providing distinction in education, research, and services to the society and the profession.
Mission
Perseverance for excellence. To educate students to be competitive in the market, ethically committed, and globally aware with insight and research skills in the different fields of mathematics. To foster an active environment of research in both pure and applied mathematics to meet the dynamic global mathematics context

- Develop scientific research capability in different areas of mathematics according to national and regional importance.
- Provide community services within a high standard of quality.
- Achieve academic excellence in accordance with academic and institutional standards.
Values
- National Values, Heritage & Culture
- Ethical Behaviour
- Collaborations
- Creativity
- Excellence
- Knowledge Responsibility
Facilities
The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers outstanding facilities to the students that include:
- A total of eight computer labs for the undergraduate program located in building E5 (2 on the first floor and 6 on the second floor). All labs are equipped with desktops: Dell OptiPlex 780/760/755/7010 CORE 2 DUO Processors running at 2.33/3.4 GHz.
- In building F1 there are six Intel Xeon 64-bit workstations for research. The workstations are running at 2.5 and 3.3 GHz with 32 GB and 64 GB RAM and 1 TB HD.
- The software package Mathematica version 11 is installed on all machines for teaching and research purposes. The total number of licenses is 160. These packages are also accessible online.
- A new graduate lab located in Building E5, room 1018, 1024, and 1025. This graduate Lab provides powerful computers equipped with essential paid discipline-specific software like CrystalMaker and Quantum Computing software, etc. The computers in the lab are divided into two categories:
-
- Windows and Macintosh (30 PC+10 Mac),
- LINUX operating systems.
Academic Programs
Math Club
The Math Club is a student club at the Department of Mathematical Sciences; open not only to math majors but also to all students interested in mathematics and its applications. Its goal is to promote mathematics to a broad audience and bring together all people enthusiastic about mathematics. Below are some of the regular activities of the Math Club:
- Participating in events organized by the Mathematical Sciences Department and the College of Science.
- Study groups in preparation for the exams.
- Collecting and sharing useful links for math resources.
- Promoting and encouraging undergraduate research through our Suggested Articles section on the Math Club webpage.
Students can join the Math Club by sending an email to Dr. Sehjeong Kim at Sehjeong.Kim@uaeu.ac.ae or Miss Oasha Ali AlHammadi at O.Alhamadi@uaeu.ac.ae
