Overview
Welcome to the Department of Veterinary Medicine at United Arab Emirates University.
As the home of the UAE’s first professional veterinary medicine program, our Department
is proud to play a leading role in educating and preparing a new generation of highly
skilled veterinarians. This journey reached an important milestone with the graduation
of our first cohort of Emirati veterinarians in June 2019, followed by the second
cohort in June 2020.
Our five-year Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine program combines a strong foundation
in veterinary basic sciences with comprehensive, hands-on clinical training. Students
develop their knowledge and professional skills through training organized by animal
species and specialized veterinary disciplines, preparing them to serve the evolving
needs of the veterinary profession.
Since March 2021, the Department has operated from its modern facilities in Falaj
Hazza. The site includes eight state-of-the-art laboratories, teaching and research
facilities, and dedicated offices for faculty and staff. These resources provide an
engaging environment in which students can learn, practise, collaborate, and develop
their clinical competence.
Our faculty members are committed educators, experienced veterinarians, clinicians,
and innovative researchers. Their expertise supports every stage of the veterinary
curriculum and contributes to research addressing national and regional priorities.
The Department places particular emphasis on One Health, food security, animal health,
and the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
The Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine program is fully accredited by the UAE Commission
for Academic Accreditation. The Department has also been a Provisional Member of the
American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges since 2018 and continues to strengthen
its engagement with leading international veterinary education organizations. In addition,
the program is a candidate member of the International Veterinary Students’ Association
and has pursued international accreditation through the European Association of Establishments
for Veterinary Education.
