UAEU Students Leading Environmental Innovation for a Sustainable Tomorrow

As part of its efforts to contribute to shaping a sustainable tomorrow, the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at the United Arab Emirates University, in collaboration with the College’s Student Club, organized an awareness campaign under the theme “Voices for the Planet: Student Innovation for a Sustainable Future.” The campaign aimed to raise students’ awareness of their role in promoting environmental sustainability and to empower them to express their environmental messages through creative and innovative means.

Dr. Mohammed Abdul Muhsen Salem Alyafei, Acting Dean of the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and Sustainability Committee Representative at the University, emphasized that this campaign is part of a series of initiatives launched by UAEU to promote sustainability concepts. These initiatives aim to engage students from various colleges and disciplines in scientific and practical activities that contribute to instilling environmental awareness. He pointed out that this year’s initiative focused on the issue of plastic pollution, considering it one of the most pressing environmental challenges currently threatening ecosystems and human health.

Dr. Nuha Mustafa, Event Supervisor, noted that the program featured a Student Poster Competition addressing a range of environmental topics, including: Plastic pollution as a local case study, Designs for a waste-free world, Water conservation, The importance of clean air, and A call for urgent action toward a sustainable future.

The competition saw participation from over 180 students representing nine colleges, reflecting the strong engagement of UAEU students and their deep commitment to sustainability issues.

The submissions varied in style and content, and the judging panel evaluated entries based on several criteria: relevance to the environmental theme, creativity and originality, clarity of the message, use of artificial intelligence tools, visual impact, and cultural appropriateness.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony honoring the winning students in recognition of their outstanding and innovative contributions to environmental awareness. The ceremony was attended by a large number of students and faculty members.

This initiative highlights UAEU’s ongoing commitment to its leading role in environmental sustainability, and its efforts to foster a culture of environmental awareness among students empowering them as future leaders and changemakers.
