UAEU’s Board of Trustees Holds its Second Meeting of the Academic Year 2023/2024

The Board of Trustees of the United Arab Emirates University, in its new formation, held its second meeting for the academic year 2023/2024 under the chairmanship of His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President of the UAE, and Chancellor of the UAE University. The meeting began by confirming the new membership of the board and appointments to its three permanent committees. His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh welcomed the new Board of Trustees members and the Advisory board members, expressing his deep appreciation for them. They are:

  • E. Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment – Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees.
  • Hon Professor Lord Ajay Kakkar KG, KBE PC, Emeritus Professor of Surgery, University College London
  • E. Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chair and Managing Director, Dubai Media Council and Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office
  • E. Salem Al-Bahri Salem Al-Ameri, Director General, Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority
  • E. Mohammed Haji Al Khouri, Director General, Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan Foundation
  • E. Tayba Abdulrahim Al Hashmi, CEO, ADNOC Offshore
  • E. Aisha Abdulla Miran, Director General, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority
  • E. Major General Khalid Abdulla Al Buainain Al Mazrouei, Chair, Baynunah Group of Companies
  • E. Dr Tariq bin Hendi, Senior Partner, Global Ventures and Chair, Edelman Middle East
  • E. Professor Riyadh Abdul Latif Al Muhaidib, Member, Board of Trustees of the Institute of Applied Technology
  • Hamad Al Ameri, Representative of the Supreme Council for National Security
  • Marwan Al Kaabi, Chief Executive Officer at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City
  • Baron Peter Piot, Professor of Global Health and former Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
  • Kyung-Soo Kim, Senior Vice President for Planning and Budget at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology

The board expressed its delight with the ranking of the UAE University at 261st globally for 2025 according to the QS World University Rankings, advancing from 290th in 2024. The board approved the UAE University’s Annual Report for 2022/2023, which includes a summary of the university’s vision, strategy, and institutional objectives, as well as details on governance, international relations, and academic and financial data.

The board also reviewed a comprehensive analysis of the university's performance indicators for 2023 and assessed the progress made within the framework of its strategic plan for 2023-2026, including the implementation of the second cycle of transformative projects under the initiative launched by the UAE Cabinet. In its responsibilities to monitor internal and external risks to the university's performance, the board reviewed a report on the key risks facing the university and the measures taken to mitigate them.

Additionally, the board approved the academic calendar for the year 2024/2025 and authorized changes to a range of academic programs, including adjustments to tuition fees, the introduction of a Master of Business Administration program, the imposition of tuition fees on students who need to retake college foundation courses in English and Mathematics, modifications to the Master of Social Work program, a new Bachelor’s program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and a new Bachelor’s program in Data Science Mathematics.

At the conclusion of the meeting, His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh expressed his deep gratitude to the members of the Board of Trustees, praising their close collaboration, saying: "Your fruitful cooperation enhances the UAE University's journey towards achieving academic and research excellence."
