United Arab Emirates University Highlights Research and Innovations for Sustainable Date Production at the Liwa Dates Festival

In the presence of H.E. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the UAE President and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine showcased a range of pioneering research projects as part of its participation in the 22nd Liwa Dates Festival 2026, held from 14 to 23 July 2026 in Liwa, Al Dhafra Region. The participation reflects the university's commitment to supporting national efforts to advance the agricultural sector, strengthen food security, and preserve the UAE's rich heritage of date palm cultivation.

Dr. Mohammed Abdul Muhsen Alyafei, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, affirmed that the university's participation in the festival reflects its national mission of employing scientific research and innovation to support the date palm sector, enhance date production, and advance sustainable agriculture. He noted that the university is showcasing its latest research and applied projects in sustainable agriculture, while providing scientific solutions that contribute to strengthening food security and ensuring the sustainability of agricultural resources.

Dr. Alyafei added that UAEU continues to develop its academic and research ecosystem by integrating advanced technologies and artificial intelligence into agricultural education and research. He emphasized that the university is preparing highly qualified national talent capable of meeting the evolving needs of this vital sector, while strengthening collaboration with farmers and public and private sector partners. He also highlighted that the festival provides an opportunity to introduce the College's academic programs and community services, supporting the UAE's vision for innovation, sustainability, and encouraging students to pursue studies in agriculture and veterinary medicine.

The UAEU pavilion featured a wide range of integrated research projects and applied initiatives in sustainable agriculture and food security, reaffirming the university's role in employing scientific research and innovation to serve the date palm sector and promote agricultural development in the UAE. The exhibition highlighted advanced technologies in smart agriculture, date production, and plant tissue culture, in addition to research on developing value-added date palm products and their organic derivatives. It also showcased projects aimed at improving date quality and enhancing the efficiency of agricultural practices through the latest scientific and technological solutions.
