Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department 

Overview

The Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department offers two programs in chemical and petroleum engineering at undergraduate and graduate levels.The Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering undergraduate programs in the College of Engineering at the United Arab Emirates University are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

We have a vibrant and supportive department with elite faculty members, laboratory specialists, research assistants and teaching assistants readily available to assist the students and to provide a world-class education.The department houses excellent laboratory facilities, which are designed to familiarize the students with theoretical and practical aspects of the various experiments and to introduce them to the aspects of industrial operations.

Our department is committed to developing the full potential of students by providing a unique and stimulating environment that promotes active learning and group work. The department is striving to reach new goals in its pursuit of academic excellence, where engineering design, innovation, and team work provide the students with the necessary tools to tackle real, multidisciplinary problems.

Our faculty members are actively involved in many research programs encompassing a wide spectrum of areas ranging from fundamental research in reservoir simulation, phase equilibria and transport phenomena to recent advances in polymer engineering, enhanced oil recovery, water desalination, nanotechnology, biotechnology, carbon capture, membrane separation, and plasma technology. Undergraduate and graduate students are also encouraged to be actively involved in many research areas.

The purpose of the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department is to graduate competent engineers to benefit the society; advance research in chemical and petroleum engineering, and related disciplines through collaboration across discipline, institution, and sector boundaries.

Mission of the Chemical Engineering Program:

“The UAEU Chemical Engineering Program is the premier Chemical Engineering Program in the nation whose mission is to meet the educational, research, and service needs of UAE society by providing programs and services of the highest quality. It contributes to the expansion of knowledge by conducting quality research and by developing and applying modern chemical engineering tools and technique. It plays a significant role in leading technical and economic development in the country.”

“The Petroleum Engineering Program is the premier petroleum engineering program in the nation whose mission is to meet the educational, research, and service needs of UAE society by providing programs and services of the highest quality. It contributes to the expansion of knowledge by conducting quality research and by developing and applying modern petroleum engineering tools and technique. It plays a significant role in leading technical and economic development in the country.”

Laboratories

The university’s new campus includes state-of-the-art laboratories that are shared by both male and female students, on a time-segregated system. The laboratories of the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department are located in buildings E6 and E7. The laboratory spaces also include additional spaces for preparation, technician rooms, storage, and other amenities.  

The department houses excellent laboratory facilities, which are designed to familiarize the students with theoretical and practical aspects of the various experiments and to introduce them to the aspects of industrial operations. The labs are managed and supervised by highly qualified lab technicians and engineers. The labs include:

  1. Unit Operations Lab
  2. Measurements Lab 1 and 2
  3. Properties of Petroleum and its Products Lab
  4. PVT Analysis Lab
  5. Drilling Lab
  6. Core Analysis Lab
