MD Program Admission

Overview

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) - UAE University strives for excellence in medical education, clinical training and research.  The College aims to graduate highly professional and competent physicians who are able to compete internationally.  Therefore, the CMHS program for Medicine sets high standards in recruitment and admission processes of potential candidates. The CMHS M.D. program for Medicine provides a unique integrated, multidisciplinary approach to learning.  The College offers admission into Medicine for undergraduates (fresh graduates of grade 12 and candidates transferring into the MD program). The CMHS also invites you to explore the possibilities of Health Sciences programs offered by the College.

Announcement

Applicants to the M.D. program at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences- UAE University (CMHS-UAEU), are encouraged to rank the UAEU as option # 1 on the Ministry of Education NAPO system, to regularly update their profile and to upload required documents and certificates. 

Candidates details will be extracted directly from the NAPO system.  Only those selected MD program at the CMHS-UAEU, will be reviewed.  The review process will assess candidate’s EmSAT scores in English, Mathematics and two of the following three scientific subjects (Chemistry, Physics, Biology).  Those satisfying EMSAT requirements will be shortlisted for Mini Multiple Interviews (MMI) conducted at the CMHS.  Dates and timings of the scheduled MMI will be communicated to candidates by phone and e-mail by office of Students Affairs at the College.  Final score of grade 12 will also be considered for final decision on admission into the program and must fulfill the required score . 

Due to limitation in the seat numbers that can be offered for admission into the program, final decision on admission will take into consideration the overall performance in the 3 requirements (high school score, EMSAT and MMI).

Policy

Candidates will be admitted to the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) in accordance with the general policies and regulations established by the UAE University.

Admission applications to the CMHS - UAE University are processed in liaison with the Ministry of Education (MOE) central admission office; the National Admissions and Placement Office (NAPO).

Admission of candidates into Medicine - CMHS is competitive and merit based.  The limited number of seats are awarded to candidates with the best academic performance in grade 12, EmSAT tests, and admission interviews.

  1. Admission is only for UAE nationals and children of Emirati mothers.
  2. A minimum EmSAT English score of 1250, or its equivalent (TOFEL 525/iBT 70 or IELTS 5.5).
  3. A minimum EmSAT Arabic score of 900, or its equivalent.
  4. A minimum EmSAT score of 900 in Mathematics or equivalent, plus scores of 900 in two of the three science subjects (Chemistry, Biology or Physics) is required from new applicants.
  5. Candidates from the fresh high school graduate pool satisfying the EMSAT scores of the required subjects, will be shortlisted for Mini Multiple Interviews (MMI) that will be conducted at the college.
  6. All Applicants should also satisfy the required final score for grade 12 as per criteria listed in the table below for different school system.
  7.  Applicants from grade 12 of private high schools must obtain equivalency to their grade 12 certificate from Ministry of Education and upload equivalency certificate along with their grade 12 certificate on their NAPO account by no later than 5th July 2024. 

  1. Transfer requests are processed only for the First Semester every Academic year.
  2. Admission for UAE nationals and children of Emirati mothers.
  3. The applicant should not have accomplished > 50% of credit hours in current College/Program.
  4. Latest minimum GPA of 3 on a scale of 4.
  5. Minimum overall high school average of 90%, or equivalent and satisfying the minimum requirements for school systems and certificates (e.g., Advanced, Science, Elite, ATHS, SABIS, IB). Medicine is not offered to graduates of the General stream. For approved school systems please refer to the criteria listed in the table below for different school system.
  6. A minimum EmSAT English score of 1250, or its equivalent (TOFEL 525/iBT 70 or IELTS 5.5).
  1. A minimum EmSAT Arabic score of 900, or its equivalent.
  2. A minimum EmSAT score of 900 in Mathematics or equivalent, plus scores of 900 in two of the three science subjects (Chemistry, Biology or Physics. If not available, the applicant is expected to pass the admission MCQ exam set by the College.
  3. Passing Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) set by the College and offered to shortlisted candidates.
  4. Admission is competency based and subject to seat availability.

American System Minimum overall average of 90% or cGPA 3.5 (on a scale of 4), or equivalent.
British System (GCE/IGCSE)

Total of eight subjects, five at (O level) and three at (AS/A level), with a minimum of grade B in all subjects.

Three of the subjects should be science subjects with minimum grade B.

Any four subjects should have a minimum of grade A.

Arabic Language and Islamic Education are not counted.

Chinese

Minimum of 90% in the final year national exam, or its equivalent.

Indian Boards and Pakistani Boards

Not applicable.

 

Admission Process

  1. Candidates aspiring to join College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) - UAE University; should register in the National Admission and Placement Office (NAPO) of Ministry of Education (MOE), and rank the UAE University as their number 1 in the options list.
  2. Admission is competency based. High ranked candidates based on their performance in the EmSAT scores, will be shortlisted for Mini Multiple Interviews and will be offered a conditional admission into the program. 
  3. Please note the following deadlines for the admission process:
  • 30th April 2024 is the deadline for registration through the NAPO
  • 20th April 2024 is the first date scheduled for the MMI
  • 26th April 2024 is the deadline for applying to transfer to the MD program
  • 29th June 2024 is the date for the scheduled Admission exam for transfer students.
  • 24th June 2024 is the deadline for accepting EMSAT scores
  • 5th July 2024 is the deadline for uploading High school certificates and equivalency certificates for candidates from private schools.

Admission Examination for transfer candidates

The admission examination for transfer students is offered to UAEU enrolled students willing to transfer to the MD program. Please note that candidates should not have completed more than 50% of their credit hours required for completion of their current program. 

The CMHS Admission MCQ exam is designed to assess candidates’ knowledge of Physics, Biology, Math and Chemistry.

The examination is on the 29th June 2024

  • Exam will be conducted in the National Medical Library at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, ground floor.
  • The exam will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 150 minutes.
  • The examination is computer based and is in English language.
  • The exam questions will be on scientific subjects (Math, Biology, Physics and Chemistry) derive from the curriculum of high school
  • Candidates must bring UAEU student’s ID for proof of verification. 
  • All candidates must present at the examination site 1 hour prior to the start time of scheduled session.  MCQ exam logistics will be shared via e-mail with candidates.

Multiple Min Interviews (MMI)

Academic Year 2024-2025

  • The MMI is a station based set of short interviews that are meant to assess candidates’ non-academic skills such as ethical decision-making, critical thinking, effective communication/problem solving and empathy among other competencies.  Applicants will be rotating through a series of up to 10 stations, each focusing on a different task or dilemma to discuss in a limited time period (total of 5 minutes) with two minutes to move in between the stations.
  • MMI will be conducted only face-to-face at the CMHS.  Scheduled date and time will be communicated to each candidate shortlisted for MMI by Phone and e-mail.  Those unable to attend on their scheduled date, should contact Miss Rahma AlKurbi or Miss Asma Alkhanbashi from the Office of Students Affairs at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
  • Candidates should not disclose the content of own interviews to a third party.
