Dr. Samir Khaled Safi earned his Master's (1997) and Ph.D. (2004) in Statistics from the American University in Washington DC, and a Bachelor of Science (1989) in Statistics and Scientific Computations from Al-Mansoura University, Egypt.
Dr. Safi interests are in Time Series Analysis, Regression Analysis, and Econometrics. He has worked on computer simulations of time series models to determine the efficiency of ANNs in the presence of auto-correlated disturbances, he considers the robustness of various models, including Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Regression models. Currently, Dr. Safi is working on a mixed data sampling (MIDAS) regression model with multiple variables of different frequencies, including the model selection based on information criterion and obtaining a forecast aggregation of different MIDAS regression models.
Dr. Safi has published several papers in reputable international journals concerning the efficiency of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) for forecasting in the presence of autocorrelated disturbances and compared ANNs with traditional forecasting techniques.
Dr. Safi was granted the best paper award at the 4th International Conference on Business and Technology (ICBT’2023), Istanbul, Turkey on Nov. 2, 2023.
Dr. Safi received many grants, such as United Arab Emirates University grants for the CBE Annual Research Program (CARP), 2022, Research Start-up, 2021, project duration is two years, 2021, and Summer Research Collaboration Leave, SRCL, 2021. Furthermore, Dr. Safi was the winner of the Fulbright Visiting Scholars Program, 2015-2016, a grant funded by the United States Department of State, and the winner of the Fellowship grant, 2015, this grant is funded by the Welfare Association and Bank of Palestine.
In addition, Dr. Safi is the recipient of Departmental Instructorship (2000-2004), Department of Mathematics and Statistics, American University, Washington, DC, USA, the Arab Student Aid International scholarship (2001-2004), and the Karim Rida Said Foundation scholarship (1997-1998).
Dr. Safi published many books, for example, "S-PLUS Programming Language and Applied Statistics", (2009) and "The Efficiency of OLS in the Presence of Autocorrelated Errors", VDM Verlag publisher (2008).
