Dr. Mohammed Al Houqani

Dr. Mohammed Al Houqani is a distinguished medical professional dedicated to advancing medical education and patient care. He currently serves as the Secretary General of the National Institute for Health Specialties (NIHS), playing a pivotal role in shaping postgraduate medical education in the UAE.
Additionally, Dr Al Houqani is also an Associate Professor at the Department of Internal Medicine, at the College of Medicine & Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University, and a consultant in Respiratory & Sleep Medicine. Dr Al Houqani earned his MBBS degree from the United Arab Emirates University in 2003.
He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto in 2007, followed by a Respirology Fellowship in 2009 and Sleep Medicine Fellowship in 2010. He is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Upon returning to UAE, he obtained a Master’s in Public Health from UAE University.
As the inaugural Secretary General of the NIHS established by Cabinet of Ministers, Dr Al Houqani oversees the national institute’s mandate to lead, regulate, and organize professional development for the health workforce with a focus on specialty training. Dr Al Houqani’s research interests include tobacco and sleep disorders, and he is a sought-after speaker at local & regional scientific meetings.
