Responsibilities
Our responsibility is to encourage investigators using experimental animals to design and perform their experimental procedures on the basis of relevance to human or animal health, advancement of knowledge, or for the good of society. The facility’s prime purpose is to provide centralized expertise in the generation, breeding and care of experimental animals to support biomedical researches and teaching.
The facility is a service core facility of the United Arab Emirates University and provides:
- Daily animal husbandry, facility operations, sanitation and maintenance.
- Preventative and veterinary medical care.
- Environmental monitoring programs and quarantine procedures.
- Technical and veterinary support as requested by investigators.
- Personnel training programs and occupational health and safety programs.
- Use of appropriate species, quality and number of animals.
- Avoidance or minimization of discomfort, distress and pain to animals.
- Use of appropriate sedation, analgesia or anesthesia.
- Provision of appropriate animal husbandry directed and performed by qualified persons.
- Conduct experiments on living animals only by or under close supervision of qualified and experienced personnel.
