Mission
The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) Research Animal Facility Unit (RAF) is committed to ensuring the humane care and use of all animals associated with its research and teaching programs. The UAEU RAF and its program meet all requirements of research and ethical committees and ensures compliance with national and international laws, regulations and guidelines governing the care, use and housing of animals used in researches and teaching.
Goals
- To ensure that healthy animals are available for use by the faculty members and students who have received approval from the Animal Ethics Committee to perform research or educational studies on animals.
- To assist the UAEU in use of animals for research and teaching in ways judged to be scientifically, technically, and humanely appropriate.
- To provide veterinary, husbandry, sanitation and management requirements for the well-being of the animals.
- To create a high quality and safe environment for laboratory animals and to minimize the risk of disease or injury to both animals and personnel.
- To conduct animal experiments in accordance with the highest scientific, humane and ethical principles accepted internationally.
- To seek accreditation of our facility by the International Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC), and to be a registered research facility with International Offices of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW).
