Ordering Procedure
The Standard Operating Procedure is intended for Principal Investigators (PIs)/Scientists who are developing or conducting protocols that involve live animals.
- All investigators must have prior CMHS Animal Ethics Committee approval.
- Animal house is a safe and secure place and have a restricted access. Therefore, all the animal room inside the animal house must remain unlocked and accessible to animal house staff and security and safety people when needed. All the animal rooms can be shared with similar strains and species.
- Once the animal will be taken for experimentation outside the animal house, they cannot be brought back to avoid contamination.
- The operation theater will be booked in advance and the key can be obtained from the animal house staff.
- The animal house facility must be informed at least one month in advance for the requirement of animals. Although orders can be executed at short notice for a small numbers of animals, it is desirable to give advance notice of 15-30 days regarding the requirement for large number of animals. This will ensure better planning of the breeding programme and supply of animals according to the specifications and on the date required.
- The animals can be collected from our central animal facility on any working days between 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M after prior confirmation over the animal availability. The principal investigator has to make their own arrangement for the collection of animals.
- Before procuring animals from outside, the principal investigator must inform the animal house staff in advance about the date of arrival of special animals, so that the necessary arrangements can be done to accommodate the animals. PIs are advised to ensure the availability of space before procuring animals from outside.
