Credit-Bearing Micro-Credential in Sustainable Earth and Energy Resources
This 6-credit-hour Credit-Bearing Micro-Credential (CBMC) in Sustainable Earth and Energy Resources provides focused graduate-level training in environmental and exploration geochemistry, climate evolution, geoinformatics, and environmental hazards. Learners develop advanced knowledge and applied skills to explain earth-system processes, analyze geoscientific datasets, evaluate environmental risks, and support sustainable resource and energy management. The CBMC is offered through two tracks: (i) a non-stackable standalone track for learners seeking focused upskilling without admission to a full graduate degree; and (ii) a stackable track for eligible learners who can be admitted to the Master of Science in Geosciences, subject to College of Graduate Studies (CGS), Admission Office, program, and university regulations.
Admission Requirements
Applications to the CBMC will follow the relevant UAEU admission cycles, deadlines, and review procedures. Applicants must be assigned to one of two tracks at admission or registration: the non-stackable standalone CBMC track or the stackable CBMC track. Stackable status is not automatic and is available only to students who satisfy the relevant CGS, Admission Office, program, and university regulations for the associated degree pathway.
Stackable towards a degree:
- Holders of a Bachelor’s degree: Admission requirements for students with a Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences or a related discipline (same admission requirements of UAEU Master’s Programs).
- Undergraduate students:
- Completion of 75 credit hours + minimum GPA (3.0) + IELTS 6.0
- To stack towards an MSc. in Geosciences degree, students should achieve the admission requirements of UAEU Master’s Programs.
Non-stackable towards a degree:
- Holders of a Bachelor’s Degree
- Hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in physical sciences, geology, geography, engineering, information technology, environmental science, or a closely related discipline, as determined by the program committee and in accordance with College and University regulations.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent, subject to institutional regulations. Applicants with a lower GPA, limited disciplinary preparation, or substantial relevant professional experience may be considered for provisional or conditional admission in accordance with university regulations and may be required to complete specified background study or achieve minimum performance in the first CBMC course.
- English proficiency is required, demonstrated by IELTS 5.5 or an equivalent qualification, or as otherwise specified by institutional regulations.
Targeted Students
The CBMC targets learners under two tracks
Stackable toward a degree:
- Holders of a Bachelor’s degree seeking a CBMC that can be stacked towards an MSc. in Geosciences.
- Undergraduate students who meet the CBMC admission requirements and later meet the admission requirements of the MSc. in Geosciences.
Non-stackable toward a degree:
- Holders of a Bachelor’s Degree seeking a non-stackable standalone credential.
Program Objectives
- Develop advanced knowledge of the geoscientific principles underlying sustainable earth-resource evaluation, environmental geochemistry, groundwater systems, climate evolution, geoinformatics, and environmental hazards.
- Equip learners with the analytical and interpretive skills required to assess geochemical, hydrogeological, climatic, and geospatial datasets relevant to sustainable resource management and environmental decision-making.
- Prepare learners to address real-world geoscience challenges through integrated, evidence-based approaches that support environmental stewardship, water security, hazard assessment, and the sustainable use of earth and energy resources.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Explain advanced knowledge of geochemical, environmental, climatic, and geospatial concepts relevant to sustainable earth and energy resources.
- Analyze and integrate geoscientific data for environmental assessment, mineral exploration, groundwater evaluation, and geoinformatics-based resource analysis.
- Evaluate environmental risks and resource-management challenges using interdisciplinary geoscience approaches.
