Bachelor-Master Accelerated Option in Mechanical Engineering
The College of Engineering at the United Arab Emirates University offers an Accelerated Bachelor–Master option in Architectural Engineering, designed to enable outstanding undergraduate students to complete their M.Sc. degree in a shorter timeframe.
Through the Bachelor–Master Accelerated Option, students may begin earning graduate-level credits while still fulfilling the requirements of the B.Sc. degree. Up to two Master’s-level courses (6 credit hours) may be double-counted toward both the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Objectives
- Make it easier for B.Sc. students to pursue graduate studies.
- Provide advanced knowledge, skills, and attributes to become independent learners and leaders.
- Open opportunities for successful careers at the forefront of industrial development, governmental, consulting, or academic areas.
- Shorten the time required to earn a graduate degree.
- Better prepare for the current and future requirements of professional registration within the U.A.E. and internationally.
- Foster a tradition of graduate research activity.
Credit Requirements
After completing the B.Sc. degree, students must apply to the M.Sc. program through the UAEU website. The M.Sc. degree requires the completion of 30 graduate credit hours distributed as follows:
Thesis Option:
21 coursework credits + 9 thesis credits
Non-Thesis Option:
24 coursework credits + 6 technical project credits
Under the integrated Bachelor-Master Accelerated option, outstanding junior and senior undergraduate students may double count up to two Master’s-level courses (maximum 6 CHs) toward both their B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree requirements. These double counting Master-level courses will replace approved elective courses in the B.Sc. degree requirements.
In addition, BS–MS students may take 1–2 extra graduate courses during their Bachelor’s study. These additional courses will count only toward the M.Sc. degree.
General Admission Requirements
- Advanced level (Junior or Senior) B.Sc. status with a minimum of 75 CH of the B.Sc. program completed with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Minimum number of CHs to apply for the program is 75
- Proficiency in English demonstrated by a score of 6.0 on IELTS or equivalent.
- Acceptance of the responsibility and obligation to pay graduate study fees.
Early Admission Procedure
- Fill the Bachelor-Master Accelerated Option form and submit to the college for review
- Submission deadline follows the University Master application deadline.
Academic Advising Guidelines
- Master level courses form must be filled by the BS-MS student before the first week of the semester.
- Up to two Master level courses can be double counted for the BS-MS students and will be transferred to their M.Sc. degrees upon joining the M.Sc. program.
- A grade of “B” or better is required in a course to qualify for the transfer to the M.Sc. degree.
- If a BS–MS student fails to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in the graduate-level courses, those courses will not be counted toward the M.Sc. degree.
