Overview
The Student Success Unit
The Student Success Unit (SSU) offers academic support to UAEU students from the time they join the university through to the postgraduate level. The unit works closely with students, with the aim of helping them fulfil their academic potential and build the skills necessary to be successful in their future lives and careers.
SSU contributes to improving retention rates and minimizing time to graduation; it also helps students develop as successful independent learners. SSU's various programs, activities and events also provide students with opportunities to engage in campus life and make meaningful connections with groups and individuals outside their disciplinary areas, thus fostering a sense of belonging and community within the student body.
The unit works towards promoting student success university-wide through the Learning Centers and Pre-Major Advising. It also holds two annual events, the Undergraduate Student Research Conference and Academic Olympics, in support of the same goals.
Our Goals are to:
- Provide students with individual and group tutoring sessions, workshops and learning support materials that assist the development of disciplinary competence and associated skills.
- Promote the development of academic literacy and communication skills through tutoring sessions, workshops, learning support materials, and other activities and services.
- Convene annual undergraduate research conferences that promote and assist the development and demonstration of disciplinary competence and research skills.
- Provide academic advising, orientation, and retention services enabling students to take ownership of their higher education opportunity and fulfil their academic potential.
