The humanities and social sciences make an important contribution to a range of contemporary research questions and problems. Most current social, cultural and economic questions necessitate cross-disciplinary understanding. Emerging fields such as life sciences or the cognitive sciences, in particular, benefit from insights and methodological approaches from the humanities and social sciences. This means that even the most complex problems can be addressed more effectively. Every aspect of our lives can be illuminated, placed in context and better understood thanks to insights provided by the humanities and the social sciences.

At the United Arab Emirates University, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), offers exciting and varied opportunities and produces graduates who can make a contribution to their local communities and wider society. This is possible because our degree programs hone analytical, critical thinking and creative skills. Students also improve their oral and written communication. That said, the learning goes much deeper. Our students develop a global perspective by studying other cultures. They deepen their understanding and appreciation of other cultures and points of view. They seek to clarify their values and ethical beliefs by comparing and contrasting with others. Students are also afforded opportunities to test what they learn in real-world contexts via hands-on, practical experiences such as internships. These internships help students in the transition to their chosen career.

The CHSS has an outstanding international faculty committed to educating students to the highest standards. They contribute to the generation of knowledge on a global scale and have an influence well beyond the university. Our faculty are also student-centered and enjoy their roles as teachers and mentors, providing both informed instruction and personal guidance to students.

Vision

Vision is to be an internationally recognized College, providing high-quality academic programs and innovative research in a vibrant campus environment that prepares graduates through an interdisciplinary and bilingual liberal education to become independent, resourceful, and enterprising citizens; well-prepared professionals; leaders in government, business, civil society, and family life; and shapers of the future of the United Arab Emirates.

Through a student-centred educational experience, the University develops the intellectual, practical, creative and leadership abilities of the nation's men and women while enhancing cultural, social and economic growth.

Accreditation 

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences acknowledges the value of international accreditation as a means of ensuring due recognition of the quality teaching and research that is carried out in the CHSS programs. A College Accreditation Committee has been set up in order to assist efforts of individual Departments to get their programs accredited, as well as to explore possibilities for institutional accreditation of the CHSS as a whole.

All CHSS programs are currently recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The CHSS at the UAEU has been granted free access to the Phrase Academic Edition, an academic program designed for universities with translation courses.

Community Service 

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is actively engaged in providing valuable contributions to the UAE community. Faculty members within the College extend their academic expertise to professional partners in both public and private sectors.

Outreach activities to the UAE community include providing specialized consultations, administering thematic workshops, delivering disciplinary lectures, and membership in a large number of committees and taskforces within federal and local institutions. In addition, the CHSS provides assistance to governmental agencies in upgrading the skills of their employees through effective training sessions.
