Project Description
The UPAR (3)-2015 G00001907 project investigates extremely drug resistant human pathogenic Klebsiella pneumoniae belonging to the sequence type ST14 by whole genome sequencing. Revealing specific features of these bacteria isolated in the UAE will help us to understand why it represents such alarming threat to local health care and will open a path to design methods to track and control its spread. The PhD student in this project, beyond the practice of general bacteriology techniques, will have to perform molecular biology experiments, e.g. RT-PCR, cloning, classical Sanger sequencing, and also should learn bacterial genome library preparation, operating next generation sequencer, and most importantly he/she has to master bioinformatics techniques used in the analysis of next generation sequencing.
