Project Description
The project aims to increase the efficiency and safety of roadway bridges through proposing innovative techniques to strengthen steel bridge girders. Such techniques rely on attaching hybrid FRP sheets to the girders using steel bolts and fiberglass studs. An extensive experimental program will be conducted on full-scale girders to assess the efficiency of the proposed techniques. Nonlinear finite element simulation will be conducted to evaluate the performance of a wide range of strengthened bridge girders with bigger sizes that are not likely to be tested physically due to several limitations including; lab capacity, available fund and time frame.
