Project Description
Pharmacogenomics aims to draw correlations between genotype and phenotype in terms of response to medications. The ultimate aim of pharmacogenomics is to use the genomic information of the individual to personalize therapy, optimize drug efficacy and minimize toxicity. It is well-documented that cardiovascular conditions and cancer are leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Regardless of treatment, there is always inter-individual variability in response to medications with genetic variations being major contributors. In this project we aim to use next-generation sequencing to identify alleles, haplotypes and genotypes among Emiratis of genes with actionable pharmacogenomic biomarkers in oncology and cardiology.
