Project Description
Urine tests are routinely used for screening and diagnostic purposes and provide the first indications that the normal metabolic processes or the kidneys may not be functioning well. Often, substances such as viruses or even whole cells may begin to appear in urine before people are aware that they may have a problem. Thus, urinalysis can be used for disease screening and/or diagnoses for any disease that result in release of specific chemical substances and/or cellular material in the urine. Our proposed project would like to bring new advancements to the process of urinealysis by coupling it with advanced micro/nanofluidics channel technology and electrical characterization techniques. Such fusion of cross-disciplinary techniques should result in the development of rapid, accurate and label-free methods to help in early diagnosis, monitoring of organ function, as well as response to treatment.
