Wellbeing Officers
The Wellbeing Officer project is an initiative by the Emirates Center for Happiness Research. The idea behind this project is to introduce the concept of increasing wellbeing at workplace. The wellbeing officers are a group of faculty and staff members who voluntarily decided to be part of this project and to assist in promoting wellbeing at their workplace.
Wellbeing Officer First Cohort
BASMA ALSHAWOOSH
Basma AlShawoosh is an academic Advisor at the College of Engineering since, 2009. Basma Completed her MBA from the Business and Economics College in November 2014. Her Bachelors was in Management Information Systems
Basma as a well-being officer aims to become one of the most effective members in building a positive culture within the United Arab Emirates University. By this she aims to increase the happiness and wellbeing to have more positive institutions. She plans on working for the Associate Provost for student affairs.
Mouza Alghaithi
Mouza Alghaithi joined the United Arab Emirates University in, 2012. She did her MBA from UAEU in the year 2015-2016. Her Bachelor s degree was in Economics. Currently, she is working as the acting head of the logistic and administrative unit in the Continuing Education Center. By being a well-being officer, she hopes to promote belonging and team spirit in the UAEU environment. She is a strong advocate for when people are safe and successful they tend to be happier.
Aisha Nuaimi
Aisha Nuaimi completed her undergraduate studies at the United Arab Emirates University and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Nutrition and then attained a Master's degree in Public health from the Faculty of Medicine by the end of the academic year 2018-2019. She joined the UAEU in 2011 and after joining it she gained experience and developed herself in various fields with the support of the Department of Nutrition Services. She acquired a Doctorate in Philosophy of Public Health and continued to grow professionally.
By joining the Quality of Life team, she aims to work with her colleagues to raise the level of employee satisfaction by creating the right conditions through initiatives in the work environments at the United Arab Emirates University. She plans on working with the office of Institutional Effectiveness, University Outreach Department and Information Technology division. She is a strong believer that her happiness lies in the happiness of others and it is very important whoever you meet you should leave a very good impression on that person.
Louise Zaaijman
Louise has been teaching English at UAEU since 2011.
She believes in the power of walking to promote physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. Louise supports the idea of walking rather than sitting in meetings, because, in her view, walking enhances freedom, cognitive functioning and social engagement.
As a wellbeing officer, she will be working with students to help navigate the many challenges of University life through healthy lifestyle management.
Majed Hashim
Majed Hashim is the head of the Logistic Unit from the Outreach Department. He joined the United Arab Emirates University in March, 2015. He was a customer relation officer in banking sector providing the customers services and needs that make them happy. His background is more into the Public Relations Affairs which will help him achieve the goal of having the personality of the well-being officer needed to spreading the happiness culture at the University. He is a strong believer that happiness to him is to show appreciation to others important values that make them happy. He plans on working with the Outreach department.
Reem Al Sheryani
Reem Al Sheryani is working as a librarian specialist at National Medical library (CMHS) where she is working as a Technical service officer and a member of library marketing team as well.
Reem aims from the opportunity of being a wellbeing officer to make a positive difference in her career and the community.
She defines the happiness as the feeling of being satisfied and appreciation for everything we have with pursue towards the best always, she believes that happiness is to be blessed.
Shamma Alamri
Shamma Alameri is working at United Arab Emirates University Libraries Deanship since, 2012.She has a management professional with MBA and a Counseling BA, both of the degrees from UAEU. She is interested with performance management and quality in addition to continuous self-development in the professional and academic field. She is also skilled with innovative and creative ideas using counseling and effective problem solving skills. In addition, she has excellent communication, activities management and presentation skills. She is interested in life balance and quality in all areas of psychological, family and work environment.
Fatima Boush
She joined the United Arab Emirates University in 2017, as a Research Assistant for the department of Linguistics. Since then she has been working at the department s lab, developing various research topics on Arabic Linguistics. As a Psychology major, she is interested in all things related to wellbeing and promoting mental wellness. She looks forward to the challenges and interpersonal development that come along being one of the UAEU s first wellbeing officers.
Zainab Alyasi
Zaynab Ilyasi is a PHD holder and currently working in the United Arab Emirates University. She is a researcher and has contributed a lot to the Arabic literature. She introduced many workshops in wellbeing in the University. She is a certified trainer for self-development, happiness and positivity. Being a wellbeing officer she is contributing in increasing wellbeing in the University.
Maryam AlAryani
Maryam AlAryani is an IT Support Specialist who works in United Arab Emirates University since December, 2009. Maryam an active, self-motivated and social individual who aspires to perform her duties as a wellbeing officer. Besides her fulltime job Maryam is an active member of different committees such as Emirates happiness and Positive Association and Happy Woman Association.
She is also keen on promoting and pursuing initiatives and activities which can make life better. She is interested in social events, self-development courses, reading and spending quality time with her family.
One of her favorite quote is by H.H Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum:
Do not underestimate your thoughts, because your energy, determination, success, and even health, are directly related to positive thoughts.
Wellbeing Officer Second Cohort
Aizhan Shomotova
Aizhan Shomotova is a current PhD Candidate in Leadership and Policy Studies in Education at College of Education (CEDU), UAE University. She completed her 2-year master s degree in Corporate Management at Tongji University, Shanghai, China. She has international experience in higher education for more than ten years. Moreover, she extensively engages in collaborative research and publication. She has been working as a Graduate Research Assistant at different departments and co-authored in several research projects at UAEU.
Aizhan presented her works at different international conferences in the field of social sciences, Education and Psychology. Her research interests focus on higher education and education management, student leadership development, youth employability, online learning and engagement, graduate students, well-being and happiness, digitalization, digital capital, the Middle East and Post-Soviet countries.
Qudsia Munawar Mohammed
Qudsia Munawar has been an employee at the UAE University since 1989. She is working in the student services department and has frequent interactions with the student community at the UAEU and understand the students perspective very well. She interacts closely with students at different opportunities like orientations, Expo trip supervision, workshops etc. She believes this experience will help her offer her opinions and feedbacks in the wellbeing research. Being a wellbeing officer, she wishes to understand the student s wellbeing status. She looks forward to implementing this understanding within her department so that she can cater to the student s need in a better manner.
Dr. Sufian Abu-Rmaileh
Dr. Sufian Abu-Rmaileh is an English Program Coordinator for the UAEU University College. He was also the Professional Development Coordinator at UAEU. He has been an administrator and a team leader for over ten years in the United States and the UAE. He has also won many awards for his work as a leader, researcher and a classroom teacher. He is a frequent presenter, invited as a speaker at local, national and international conferences. He has written on motivation, stress and burnout, critical and creative thinking, emotional and social intelligences, coaching and mentoring and leadership. He is TESOL Arabia past-president, past conference co-chair. He has been a Toastmaster member, club, area and division director for over 14 years.
Dr. Taghreed Abu Sarhan
Dr Taghreed M. Abu Sarhan has a BA in English Language and Literature from Yarmouk University, Irbid, Jordan. She also has an LLM in Human Rights Law from University of Leicester, Leicester UK, 2004. Also, she has an MA in Law, Policy, and Society from Northeastern University, Boston, USA 2008. Dr Abu Sarhan got her PhD in Gender, Ethnicity, and Social Identities from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, 2011. She worked for the Jordanian Family Protection Department (FPD), investigated domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assaults and Gender Based Violence.
Her interests are women s and child protection from a legal angle, women and children in the criminal justice system, women killings, law enforcement and human rights and forensic social work. Dr. Taghreed worked for the UNFPA UNITED NATIONS OFFICE IN AMMAN before she joined United Arab Emirates University, Social Work Department in 2015 where she is serving now as an Assistant professor of Social Work.
Dr. Moien Khan
Dr. Moien Khan is a UK board-certified consultant and an academic faculty in Family Medicine. Prior to working in the United Arab Emirates, he has taught students from King's College, London and trained postgraduate residents in the United Kingdom. Dr Moien has vast experience working as a consultant in family medicine and has been an associate medical director at the healthcare center in England. Dr Moien has a keen interest in the management of diabetes and obesity in the community.
Furthermore, he has supervised several postgraduate students in diabetes care and obesity medicine at the Cardiff University and University of South Wales. His primary interest is global health and medical education. His other interests include obesity medicine. He is serving now as an Assistant professor of Family Medicine at UAEU.
Halima Salem Almeqbaali
A lab specialist in Biology Department, UAE University since 2013. Supervising teaching and research labs. Earned BSc in Environmental Biology and Ecology, and a Master s degree in Public Health. Certified Safety Officer, who successfully achieved the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) manage safely course. Enthusiastic participant within college of science activities beside many different institutions, ex. Emirates foundation. She joined the program hoping to help herself and her colleagues to overcome the stress resulting from work and life pressures.
