To Foster Innovation and Lead the Digital Future

The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) took part in GITEX GLOBAL 2025, the largest global event in technology and artificial intelligence. The event was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 13–17, 2025, in the presence of H.E. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the UAE President and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, and H.E. Prof. Ahmed Ali Al Raeesi, Vice Chancellor of UAEU.

The university’s participation is part of its commitment to highlighting the latest advancements in vital technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and data centers reflecting its leading role in promoting innovation and digital transformation. In addition, the university participated in the “Expand North Star” exhibition, held in conjunction with GITEX GLOBAL 2025, to support entrepreneurial projects and startups, linking them with investors and accelerating growth in the entrepreneurship and digital economy ecosystem. This year, the exhibition witnessed the participation of more than 6,800 technology companies, 2,000 startups, and 1,200 investors from 180 countries making it the most diverse edition in the history of the event.

Research Future: UAEU Launches High-Performance Modules at GITEX 2025

The Department of Information Technology (DOIT) presented the UAEU High-Performance Computing Center (UAEU-HPC) project, led by Dr. Maryam Al Yammahi, Chief Information Officer at UAEU. She highlighted that the center provides high-performance computing capabilities that support research and innovation across a wide range of disciplines. The system is considered one of the most advanced among academic institutions in the UAE. It offers comprehensive infrastructure designed to support researchers in carrying out complex scientific projects. Built according to the latest global standards, the system is enhanced by deep integration with AI and machine learning technologies, and fortified with advanced cybersecurity measures to ensure data protection, service continuity, and operational efficiency. In addition, the university presented its “HiFlex Interactive Classrooms” initiative, which merges in-person and remote learning through an integrated, interactive experience. The system incorporates advanced audiovisual technologies and collaborative tools to support hybrid education and early learning models.

Student Innovations in Shaping the Future: Smart Applications in Entrepreneurship, Safety, Transportation, and Health

This year, UAEU showcased at its pavilion a range of outstanding student projects and innovations in artificial intelligence, smart applications, and digital transformation, presented by the College of Information Technology, College of Engineering, and the management of digital transformation and information technology.

The university also presented the UAEU High-Performance Computing Center (UAEU-HPC) project. The College of Information Technology highlighted several unique innovations in AI and the Internet of Things, including the project: “A Health App for Monitoring Elderly Care Based on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Support” supervised by Dr. Yasser Mahmoud, with student participants: Mariam Saeed Al Jaberi, Fayza Ramadan, Lama Al Fatih Ali, Shamma Rashed Al Amri, and Ramaz Ahmed. This project combines AI technologies with the Internet of Things to improve elderly welfare through fall detection and vital signs monitoring, along with a virtual assistant powered by natural language processing. The system is integrated with a mobile application that provides real-time notifications and daily support to caregivers.

Students also presented the “RiseRoot” project, supervised by Prof. Mahmoud Masoud, with the participation of students: Aisha Al Neyadi, Hamda Al Ghaithy, Mariam Al Shehhi, and Mahra Al Saeedi. This smart application aims to empower entrepreneurs by analyzing the success rate of startup projects based on type of activity and geographic location. It also provides administrative tools, professional guidance, and access to real-life case studies of leading business ventures enhancing investment awareness and supporting informed decision-making.

Another featured project was the “Intelligent System for Detecting Distracted Driving Behaviors”, supervised by Dr. Hanan Lamazi, with student Khaled Maher Ibrahim. The system uses artificial intelligence and IoT to monitor driver behavior inside vehicles through cameras and sensors, issuing immediate AI-powered alerts to reduce the risk of road accidents.

The College of Engineering also participated with a pioneering project titled: “Autonomous Intelligent Transportation System to Enhance Mobility on Campus”, supervised by Dr. Abdulrahman Younes Kalbat, with student participants: Mouath Khadem, Sara Ahmed, and Hessa Abdulhady Al Ahbabi. This project aims to create a safe, sustainable transportation network within the university campus by integrating autonomous vehicles, smart bus stations, and intelligent control systems. The project focuses on reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, and ensuring passenger safety, while leveraging AI and IoT to implement a fully sustainable transportation solution.

UAEU’s participation in GITEX GLOBAL 2025 is aligned with the rapid transformation of AI and vital emerging technologies. The event serves as a global platform for academic and industry leaders, investors, and innovators to exchange knowledge and showcase cutting-edge research and applications in fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, sustainable technology, and modern mobility. GITEX continues to attract top global conferences and talents committed to developing solutions that support the future of the digital economy.
