Director’s Message
Khalifa Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology has come a long way since its inauguration in 2014. His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, directions have been instrumental for the success of the center.
The Center is discovering the mechanism of how desert plants are tolerant to environmental challenges. The knowledge that is generated is used to genetically modify plants, which enables them to withstand extreme conditions. In addition, the Center is also developing plants with other agro-economical values such as sugar-content, seedless fruits etc.
The Center developed three research platforms, that includes genomic, bioinformatics and translational research, that form the core of its R&D. Access to enormous genome and transcriptome data has provided infinite opportunities for the scientists to establish beneficial effects in agriculture.
Khalifa Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology is providing an excellent opportunity for the next generation of scientists to explore various scientific arenas. The center ensure that these scientists flourish in appropriate research ambience that guarantees fulfilment. We also extend extensive collaborative network around the world to unify and strengthen our efforts towards a more sustainable agriculture. It gives me delight and enthusiasm to work with students, researchers, and faculties to make the Khalifa Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology a prominent and distinguished research center.
I invite you to discover our wide array of research opportunities.
Professor Khaled Amiri
Director, Khalifa Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
