BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Marina Marren is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy with the Department of Cognitive Science. Prior to joining the United Arab Emirates University, Marren was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Nevada, Reno. Prior to that she was a lecturer at the University of Oregon. She also held an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship with the American University in Cairo, Egypt. Marren is a recipient of multiple teaching excellence awards.
She is the author of many articles in ancient Greek, German and political philosophy, as well as philosophy of religion and art (e.g., with ΣΧΟΛΗ; Ramus: Critical Studies in Greek and Roman Literature; Perspectives on Political Science; Philosophy and Literature; HOPOS: The Journal of the International Society for the History of Philosophy of Science; International Journal of Philosophy and Theology; and other peer-reviewed journals and volumes). Her recent publications offer analyses of political conflict, civic education, and science. In her book, Plato and Aristophanes: Comedy, Politics, and the Pursuit of a Just Life (Northwestern UP 2022), Marren argues for the value of comedy as an aesthetic mode of political critique.
Marren's current research project is on comparative culture studies. The project is funded by a UAEU Start-Up grant.
