Minor in Climate Change and Sustainability
This minor offers students a unique inter/multidisciplinary understanding of climate change and sustainability, providing a shift from a strict disciplinary orientation. Combining the Minor in Climate Change and Sustainability with any major enables students to identify sustainable solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation. The minor curriculum is designed to supplement their major field of study with skills in sustainability and knowledge in climate change.
Admission Requirements
- Min grade requirement: None
- Pre-requisite: The student must have successfully completed one of the courses under General Education Theme 5: Sustainability, which currently includes:
- GESU 121 - Sustainability
- GEBS 220 - Sustainability, Social Responsibility and Business Ethics
- VMED 116 - Principles of Sustainable Animal Husbandry
- CIVL 290 - Sustainable Engineering Principles
- MEED 109 - Sustainability for Medicine
- Completion of 50 credit hours
- Targeted students: The minor in Climate Change and Sustainability is open to all students.
Program Objectives
- Provide students with the knowledge necessary to address climate change challenges
- Equip students with skills necessary to identify sustainable solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
- Prepare students for a career in public and private sectors focused on climate change and sustainability.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Describe the physical mechanisms that underlie climate change and its drivers.
- Identify how the principles of sustainability can help in addressing the threat of climate change.
- Explain how humans interact with climate change, including technical, social science perspectives, mitigation and/or adaptation solutions.
