Internal and External Grants

ZCHS investigators were successful in securing Center-based strategic research and University Program in Advanced Research (UPAR) as well as Asian University Alliance (AUA)-based collaborative grants.   In addition, ZCHS investigators have also been successful in attracting funds from external organizations, such as ASPIRE/ADEK, Al Jalila Foundation, Sheikh Hamdan Award, etc., for their research projects.

Zayed Bin Sultan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation (ZBSCHF) Funded Grants

In the years 2020 and 2023, two cycles of research grants were awarded from the proceeds of ZBSCHF endowment.  In 2020, five grants were awarded for a total of AED 400,000 and in 2023, six grants were awarded for a total of AED 450,000.  Following are the titles of the grants awarded:

2020

• Role of galectin-3 in autophagy in early acute myocardial Infarction.
• Does licogliflozin have a cardioprotective role in experimental diabetes?
• Role of β-Caryophyllene, a CB2 receptor agonist in experimental model of myocardial fibrosis.
• Effects of dehydration on inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress, apoptosis, and functional genomics in the camel heart.
• The role of mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake in the mechanisms of Ca2+ signalling and ROS production in cardiac cells.

2023

• Molecular mechanisms of developmental origin of metabolic diseases of liver using genetically obese patient derived iPSCs-hepatocyte differentiation.
• Heart attack radar.
• Tocolytic action of methylglyoxal: role of the inward rectifier potassium channels.
• Assessment of dysbiosis in mucosa-associated microbiota in correlation with pathological disruption in the inflamed gut tissue in Crohn’s disease.
• Elderly physical and mental health monitoring and anomaly detection based on the daily activities of living using deep learning.
• Functional characterization of the role of long non-coding RNA, hOBR in lipid metabolism.
