The United Arab Emirates University has announced during a media briefing held on Monday, August 12, 2024, that all preparations for the 2024-2025 academic year have been completed. This includes welcoming new students and faculty members and commencing the new academic year.

H.E.Prof. Ahmed Ali Al Raeesi, Acting Vice Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University has emphasized during the media briefing that UAEU is advancing in its academic journey which is based on pioneering and progress, striving for further academic and research successes. The university is strengthening its role as a leading national institution and a comprehensive research organization with a vision for the future.

H.E. noted that the university is beginning the new academic year with an ambitious vision, introducing four new academic programs: Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Bachelor of Science in the Mathematics of Data Science, Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy in Geographic Data. Additionally, the university announced 15 new research project opportunities, funding 234 research projects in 2024, and sending 394 research projects for external evaluation.

H.E. also highlighted that “As part of its expansion to attract faculty members, the university will welcome more than 26 new faculty members, 9 lecturers, 42 visiting professors, and 9 visiting professors this semester. Furthermore, 4 distinguished researchers have been recruited in the fields of Engineering, Information Technology, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, and at the National Water and Energy Center to support the university’s scientific research strategy for 2023-2026.”

He added “In support of scientific research, several local and international research funding programs have been launched, including the joint research funding program between UAEU and the University of Sharjah, joint research funding program with Sun Yat-sen University in China, joint research funding program with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and a new research course within the joint research funding program between UAEU and Sultan Qaboos University.

Dr. Suad Mohammed AlMarzooqi, Associate Provost for Students’ Affairs, stated that the number of new students admitted this year is 5,636, including UAE nationals and returnees from the national service. Additionally, 1,193 students were admitted, whom will join the national service this cycle, and 557 students have been admitted to graduate programs (Master's and PhD).

Dr. Al Marzouqi also mentioned that 478 international students from within and outside the UAE were admitted based on the university’s scholarship criteria and policies. Three top high school graduates have been admitted to the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Engineering, and Information Technology.

She added “UAEU has organized an orientation program for new students and their families, designed to introduce them to important academic and extracurricular aspects, university policies and regulations, campus facilities, and safety guidelines.” The university will also launch several extracurricular programs and initiatives this academic year, which supports the university student academically and contributes to building the future skills of the student. Such as:  Outstanding and Gifted Students Welfare Program and Academic Support Program. Additionally, several exhibitions will be organized to familiarize students with the job market.
