The United Arab Emirates University is participating in the activities of the World Media Congress for the year 2023 in its second edition, which is being held from November 14 to 16, 2023. This participation comes to enhance the university’s role as a leading centre for education, research and innovation in the field of media.

The UAEU platform participating in the Congress hosted meetings between distinguished media figures, graduate alumni students, and current university students, in an interaction that reflected the convergence of experiences and the exchange of knowledge between generations.

UAEU students also participate in a number of projects related to the media and its challenges and how to use technological tools in an integrated understanding of media challenges. The two students, Zayed Al-Dosari and Nasser Al-Saadi, present an application entitled “AI News Digest,” which aims to summarize the news and present it in an easy way. The two students explain: “The tool is designed to be easy to use and effective and comes as an ideal solution for professionals and those looking for quick access to the essence of the news, while emphasizing respect for privacy by not storing any personal data.”

While student Abdul Rahman Al-Kaabi participated in the reporter robot project, which aims to improve news reports, Al-Kaabi explains, “This project combines the linguistic skills of artificial intelligence and the robot to create an interactive and information-rich experience. The system takes advantage of NewsGPT to analyse the context and provide interactive news reports, which transforms the robot to an intelligent and versatile news reporter.

As for the third project, it is detecting misleading information through detecting fake news, in which students Latifa Al Nuaimi and Amna Al Shamsi participated in its formation. Latifa Al Nuaimi said: “The project aims to confront the challenges of fake news by providing a tool that verifies the credibility of news articles and content on the Internet and social media.”

Amna Al Shamsi explained: “The tool works with advanced technologies such as GPT-3.5, Google search, and the fake news detection model to provide multiple levels of verification, which establishes a new standard in preserving the truth in the digital age.” These projects participating in the World Media Congress come as an important step towards integrating technology into the media sector, highlighting the creativity and distinguished innovations of the UAEU students, and strengthening their position as pioneers in the field of media and artificial intelligence technologies.
