The Board of Trustees of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) met today, under the Chairmanship of the University’s Chancellor, H.E. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to H.H. the President of the UAE.

As part of its oversight responsibility for the UAEU’s strategy implementation, the Board noted the UAEU’S 2022 KPI performance and the progress being made my executive management in executing the University’s strategy in support of national political, economic and social objectives.

In connection with the UAEU’s comprehensive action plan to accelerate the advance of the University’s global ranking, the Board received presentations on the current status of research activities and their associated challenges, and the further development of the research strategy as part of the University’s longer term and broader strategic planning.

The Board received and duly noted an update on the progress being made with implementing the provisions of Cabinet Resolution No.23/10 of 2022 – ‘Implementation Committee for Federal Higher Education Institutions Governance Resolution’.

The Board reviewed the principal actions and priority areas for improvement contained in the Board performance self- evaluation Report and noted the actions being taken to address the Report’s recommendations.

In accordance with Cabinet Resolution No (55) of 2022 Governance of Federal Higher Education Institutions in UAE, the Board approved the establishment of a Finance, Administration and Investment Committee as the third permanent Committee of the Board, and approved the Committee’s Charter and membership.

The Board received a report from the Academic and Student Affairs Committee. The Board accepted the Committee’s recommendations and duly approved:

• The establishment of a Human Capital Research Center,
• A new PhD program in Environmental Engineering and
• Name changes to the five Departments of the College of Business and Economics.

H.E. Dr Tariq Bin Hendi, Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee presented the Committee’s periodic report on financial affairs, Enterprise Risk Management, and Internal Audit.

The Board received and duly noted a presentation of the UAUE’s financial performance for the calendar year 2022.
