The UAEU Council discusses strategic projects that align with the national guiding principles for the next fifty years and strengthen delivery of the university’s mission

Fourth Meeting of the UAEU Council in the Academic Year 2021/22
The Chancellor offers praise for the UAEU as the only national university to have hosted a Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The Council approves a new master s program in English Language and Cultural Studies, and two virtual research institutes on precision medicine and food security in drylands.
The Council of the United Arab Emirates University Council has held its fourth meeting for the academic year 2021/2022, chaired by H. E. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to H.H. the President of the UAE and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University. The purposes of the ordinary meetings of the Council are to review the UAEU s progress in executing its mission to pursue research and education in accord with international standards and practices, and to review , within the ordinary meetings of the University Council to review the progress in the UAEU mission through which the university carries out its research and academic role in accordance with the best international standards and practices, and to review and make decisions concerning the recommendations submitted in the reports of the Council s subcommittees.
The Chancellor informed the Council that the UAEU Pavilion at EXPO 2020 Dubai had been an outstanding success. The UAE is the only national academic institution to have participated in a global event that joined East and West together in the Middle East. The Chancellor offered his praise, noting that the pavilion had attracted a large number of visitors.
The UAEU Pavilion presented "The University of the Future", introduced the scientific capabilities of the university, and demonstrated the alignment of its academic and applied programs with the global requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It showed the UAEU s leadership in higher education and scientific research and its contribution to building the knowledge economy and advancing societal development and wellbeing.
The Chancellor stressed that it was important the UAEU makes greater strides to achieve its vision and mission, delivering education and research of global standards to strengthen its contribution to national progress.
In accord with its responsibility to oversee the development and implementation of UAEU strategy, the Council reviewed and approved a number of projects that align with the ten national principles set to guide the UAE s political, economic, and social development in the next fifty years.
The Council reviewed a report by the Western Senior College and University Commission for accreditation (USA), issued following their visit to UAEU during 8-10th March to reaffirm the accredited status of the university. The Council noted the commendations and stipulations outlined, and agreed that the outcomes were extremely positive.
H.E. Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Chair of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee, presented the committee s latest report. In accord with its recommendations the Council approved a new Masters of English and Cultural Studies, two virtual research projects on Precision Medicine and Food Security in Dry Lands, and the change in title of the Department of Special Education which will now be known as the Department of Special and Gifted Education.
In keeping with its responsibility for fiduciary oversight, the Council received a report from H.E. Dr Tariq bin Hendi, Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee. Based on the recommendations presented, the Council approved the UAEU s audited financial statements for 2021, noted the UAEU s financial performance for Q1 2022, and approved the budgetary targets for 2023.
