Thu, 27 October 2016
As part of the Year of Reading, the Physics Department in the College of Science at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) organized an activity called ‘Fun Reading’ on Wednesday, 12th October. It was hosted in the Fun Physics Lab, in the presence of Professor Ahmed Murad, Dean of the College of Science, faculty and students.
Professor Murad said that the event aimed to relate Physics experiments to reading and to encourage students to specialize in Physics in order to meet the needs of the job market.
Students read about some scientific experiments in Physics such as Newton’s Laws and electrical and chemical physics and then applied them in experiments to deduce some basic concepts concerning sound, light, heat and electricity, etc. It was hoped that this would arouse curiosity concerning Physics.
Dr. Ashraf Farooq, a Fun Physics Lab technician, said that, “Physics is the basis of technology including space travel, aviation, medical procedures and nuclear power. Such technology contributes to a nation’s development and helps in building a solid scientific foundation for other sciences.”
