The Library Deanship and the Center for Career Placement and Alumni Organize a ‘Functional Reading’ Activity

In line with the Year of Reading initiative, the Library Deanship and the Center for Career Placement and Alumni at the United Arab Emirates (UAEU) organized a lecture entitled ‘Functional Reading’ on Tuesday, 19th April, 2016 in the Crescent Building at UAEU. It was attended by many high school students.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Mohamed Saeed, an Arabic teacher from University College. He explained the importance of functional reading in different fields and majors, and also discussed the development of new reading skills and methodologies. Dr. Saeed explained that functional reading was a style of reading where the reader focused on items relevant to their specialization.
At the end of the lecture, he stated that, “the aim of reading in general is personal development, which is also important in social development”.
A workshop - Plan your Future by Choosing the Right Major – by Dr. Majid Afif, discussed the impact on your career of choosing the right major and how to go about making that choice.
