The College of Sciences organizes a ‘Thirsty Cities’ lecture

The College of Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University organized a lecture on ‘Thirsty Cities’ in the Information Technology Building on the Maqam campus on Sunday November 1st, 2015. In attendance were Dr. Ahmed Murad, Dean of the College of Sciences, professors and students. This lecture is part of a series organized by the College of Sciences involving specialists in various fields to facilitate research exchange between UAEU and other academic institutions.
Professor Chad Staddon, a professor of Geography and Environmental Management from England, presented the lecture and began by asking whether urbanization can solve the problem of water shortages. He also discussed international water security and how to protect ourselves from water pollution due to disasters. He also talked about how to preserve water to support social and economic development. He discussed the tools and practices that can ensure water security, including urban water networks and their management.
The lecture also provided examples from around the world on the ways that technology and policy can make the most of small amounts of water.
