Mon, 6 June 2022
The Department of Geography and Urban Planning in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) released research on themes concerned with the UAE’s geography. It was published in the Arab World Geographer in Canada.
Professor Saif Al Qaydi, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, received a special issue of the journal from Dr. Khaula Al Kaabi, Chair of the Department of Geography and Urban Planning, containing research on the UAE’s geography and topography.
Professor Al Qaydi stressed that this special issue of the Arab World Geographer indicated the research being done and the status of UAEU both regionally and globally. It presented an excellent opportunity for geographers at UAEU to disseminate their research in an international journal. Additional to the impressive faculty contribution, this issue is part of the university's remit to highlight the achievements of the UAE in areas of national importance.
Dr. Al Kaabi thanked the faculty who contributed to the issue and referred to the topic focus. This included the effect of expatriates on the population of the UAE; the monitoring of vegetation in Abu Dhabi from 1973-2010 using GIS and remote sensing; the management of an integrated waste system and an analysis of the impact of greening on the formation of heat islands in urban areas of Abu Dhabi.
