Department of Social Wellbeing

Overview

The Department of Social Wellbeing offers academic programs that furnish students with the content knowledge and professional skills necessary to improve and safeguard the social wellbeing of individuals, families and communities. We are led by values of solidarity, empathy, social justice, happiness, empowerment, inclusion, rehabilitation, prevention and positive intervention. Our programs provide multidisciplinary solutions to the challenges pertaining to living in modern society.

Our Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree is a professional degree in compliance with Global Standards of the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW). The program places a strong emphasis on field- based education involving integration of the academic aspect and practice. Students spend two semesters in the field going through a planned set of experiences occurring in a practice setting that helps translate knowledge from the classroom into skills and competencies in the practice field.

As the Department furthers its posture as a multidisciplinary academic entity, students will have the opportunity to enroll in upcoming interdisciplinary academic programs that reflect solid academic standards and align with market needs.

The Department also offers a Master of Social Work (MSW) program that prepares graduates for advanced professional practice in an area of concentration. The MSW program prepares UAEU graduates to join the job market as specialized practitioners, accepting leadership roles within the areas of health/mental health, criminal justice, applied research, policy analysis, community education, schools and in the planning and provision of social services in other areas.

We have outstanding faculty who share a passion for teaching and research in the field.
