Banner ERP acts as the backbone of the IT application services available to the UAEU community. Banner INB is the integrated ERP system used by HR,
Finance and Student Administration units; and Banner based eServices portal provide wide range of services to the whole university community.
Following the 3 years upgrade cycle, Banner ERP as well as underlying infrastructure (both software and hardware) received a major upgrade in 2017.
Highlights of this upgrades are:
Volunteering is a great opportunity to gain experience and to contribute to help the community. The United Arab Emirates University aims to provide the
best services through the adoption of best practices in the field of volunteerism.
1. Hardware infrastructure migrated from physical servers to virtual servers with advanced backbone. This helps IT to make the ERP more responsive and stable with minimal
disruption.
2. Underlying database and application server software upgraded to latest version to provide enhanced the performance, security and compliance with vendor support
requirements.
3. Entire Banner ERP, Document Management System and ODS reporting database were upgraded to the latest versions. These upgrades helped to address various application level
limitations faced by the end users. In addition, it helped us to meet the compliance requirements of the software vendors.
4. Upgrade project been rolled out in phases to minimize the service unavailability and disruptions during the upgrade.
5. UAEU is following a policy of zero alteration to vendor provided software. To provide enhanced application services in-house IT applications that integrated to the ERP system are
developed by university IT team. This always makes the application upgrades are smoother and faster. Due to above policy as well as the expertise from theDoIT, this upgrade
project was completed with 60% of the budget estimated by the vendor.
Banner Upgrade Project Insight’s
Student Volunteer System
The Student Volunteer System V1.0 is developed to support this goal through male & female students’ volunteer. The new system is open to all students (male & female) of different
nationalities and cultures, to register for volunteer work during events which are published by The Student Activities Department.
Students can have a full report for their previous volunteer work and the total number of volunteering hours. Also, the system selects the top 10 volunteering students and publishes
it to allow students to compete in volunteering work.
The new Student Volunteer System automates the process of managing the students volunteer work during events, requesting and approving events. Also, it allows the volunteering
coordinator to produce quarter and annual reports about volunteering achievements.
The system is built using Java 1.6, JSP, JavaScript, CSS3, JQuery and Bootstrap technologies. Backend database Oracle 12c, and the system is integrated with Banner and Active Directory.
