Dr. Tatiana Karabchuk

Dr. Tatiana Karabchuk started her academic career in 2002 as a junior researcher in the Center for Labour Market Studies at National Research University Higher School of Economics and got her PhD in Economic Sociology in 2009. Dr. Tatiana worked for 14 years at National Research University Higher School of Economics as a deputy head of the international research center and associate professor. In January 2016 she joined the UAE University and currently she is an associate professor with the Department of Government and Society, CHSS, UAEU.
Dr. Tatiana is heavily engaged in the international academia serving as Editorial Member of the journal Social Forces as well as Council Member and Conference Chair for World Association for Public Opinion Research. Tatiana actively participated in more than 25 research projects (most of them with international collaborators), successfully completed more than 17 research grants as the Principal Investigator. Just over the last five years Dr Tatiana received over a million dirham grants budget to study crucial social challenges in the UAE like Value and Employment of Emirati Youth, Fertility Attitudes of Emirati Youth, Research Efficiency at the Universities in the UAE, Happiness and Health in the UAE.
Dr. Tatiana has a wide international research experience due to research visiting fellowships at IOS Regensburg (Germany), GESIS EUROLAB (Germany), Population Centre of the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, USA), at Institute for Economic Research at Hitotsubashi University (Tokyo, Japan), and at the Institute for Survey Research at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, USA). Dr Tatiana presented at more than a hundred international and national conferences, research seminars and workshops across the Globe, including the top ones in sociology like American Sociological Association annual meetings, European Survey Research Association conferences, International and European Sociological Associations, World Association for Public Opinion Research, Public Policy Forums and etc.
Tatiana authored more than 35 academic articles in peer-reviewed journals in the field of social sciences, including such top-ranked journals as Journal of Family and Marriage, Higher Education Quarterly, Post-Soviet Affairs, The ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, Journal of Happiness Studies, Mind & Society, Current Psychology and etc. Being a specialist in survey research methodology and multilevel regression analysis, Dr Tatiana conducts research within such arears of studies as youth studies, labour market studies, demography, and cross-country comparative sociology. Her main research interests, in particular, cover happiness & well-being, job stability and job search, unemployment challenges, ideal number of children and fertility, gender inequality attitudes, values and migration. Dr Tatiana mainly works both with available data from cross-country comparative surveys such as World Value Survey, European Social Study, European Value Survey, Arab Barometer, and International Social Survey Program, and designs her own surveys applied via online or the face-to-face modes.
Being active researcher under forty year old Tatiana has h-index 12 and 721 Google Scholar Citations. Dr Tatiana serves as a reviewer to 15 peer-reviewed international academic journals. In addition to that she finds time to mentor young researchers and students to motivate and inspire them for their academic achievements. This year her students took first, second and third places in sociology in the 8th Abu Dhabi University Undergraduate Virtual Research Competition. In the recognition of her excellent research and supervising activities Dr Tatiana received CHSS UAEU Excellence Award in Scholarship in 2021.
