The Graduate Student Development, in association with The SSU Technology Center, invites you to attend a workshop on: Introduction to Python

Session 2 (Advanced Level): 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM

Target Audience
This workshop is primarily for students in Master’s or Doctorate programs who wish to gain knowledge on how to use Python in an effective manner to solve engineering and data-related problems.

Workshop Description
It is assumed that attendees have downloaded and installed Python 3.9xx or 3.10a as well as a suitable, working, Code Editor (e.g., Atom, Anaconda, PyCharm, Visual Studio Code) on their device prior to attending the workshops to enable hands-on programming during the workshop.
This workshop will cover following topics
Introductory Level (Session 1)
- Installation of Packages
- Basic Data types in Python
- Basic math operations and string operations
- If, For, While code structures
- Arrays-Basics
- User defined functions
- Matplotlib - Plotting of 2D (linear, scatter, bar, log,loglog, logx,logy)
- GUI with Tkinter
Advanced Level (Session 2)
- The underscore _
- More Data Types in Python
- Symbolic math
- Control systems with Python (Bode, Nyquist, rootlocus,…)
- 3D Visualisation (wireframe, surface)
- Fourier Transformation (FFT)
- Numerical Integration
- Solving ODE’s
- Data processing (basic stats, regression, classification, clustering)
Resources
To download Python, go to https://www.python.org/downloads/ and select version 3.9 or greater for your particular operating system. To download a code editor (IDE) (use community versions which are free) you can try: (https://atom.io/ OR https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/download/#section=windows OR https://jupyter.org/ install OR https://code.visualstudio.com/Download OR https://www.anaconda.com/products/individual
NOTES: Please read the selected software installation instructions carefully before installation. For example, if you download Python from python.org and Visual Studio Code, please make sure you select the ADD to Path option that will appear on one of the popup windows that appear during the two proinstallation cesses. Also, if using Anaconda, it has an inbuilt IDE called a Spyder.
Once you have Python and a code editor up and running, please install the following packages:
pandas, numpy, matplotlib, control, pillow, sympy, scikit-learn

Registration
Registration will open 7 days before the session. Participants need to register by 3pm on 28th Sept. to receive the MS Teams link for the meeting:
- Log in https://uaeu.mywconline.com/ *First time-users will need to create an account*
- Select Technology Center-CGS-FL23 schedule
- Go to 30 Sept, select “Python CGS… Part 1 or Part 2” & create an appointment
- The MS Teams link will be sent to you by email before the session
