Minor in Environmental Engineering
The purpose of the proposed minor is to provide engineering students with an opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in environmental engineering. The minor focuses on applying engineering principles to protect human health from adverse environmental factors, protecting the environment, and improving environmental quality. The minor aims to equip students with fundamental knowledge and competencies in environmental chemistry, environmental microbiology, water quality and pollution control, water and wastewater treatment, air quality engineering, and solid and hazardous waste management. In addition, elective courses will allow students to focus on the specific topics and applications of their interest. The minor is envisioned to improve students’ job prospects and better prepare them for graduate studies and research in the field.
Admission Requirements
- Min grade requirement: The student must a have a Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the time of application.
- Pre-requisite:The student must have scored a grade of B or higher in both courses CHEM111 and CHEM175..
- Targeted students: The minor in Environmental Engineering is open to all engineering students.
Program Objectives
- Provide students with substantial exposure to a range of environmental engineering topics
- Develop student knowledge of the fundamental concepts of environmental engineering
- Generate engineers with the required technical and soft skills necessary for the environmental engineering profession
- Prepare students for a post-graduate studies and research in the fields of water resources and environmental engineering
- Acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Apply principles of engineering, science, and mathematics to solve complex environmental engineering problems.
- Generate technical reports and presentations in the field of environmental engineering.
- Recognize the economic, environmental, and societal impact of environmental engineering solutions.
