The number of National teaching
staf rose to 223 members in all
Faculties of the university since the
launch of the graduate assistants
program in 1986. All graduate
assistants, male and female, who
have graduated from the program,
occupy remarkable academic
and administrative positions in
addition to teaching. Moreover,
some of them were promoted to
occupy eminent academic positions,
of whom six were appointed as
Deans of the Faculties of Law,
Food & Agriculture, Engineering,
Medicine and Health Sciences,
UGRU, and University Libraries. In
addition, 58 graduate assistants are
currently studying in the program
in diferent specializations of whom
10 of are in the process of obtaining
Ph.D degrees in summer 2011.
Dr. Abdullah Saad Al-Khanbashi,
Vice Chancellor of UAEU stated that
this program translates the vision of
H.H Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan,
Minister of Higher Education &
Scientifc Research, Chancellor
of UAEU concerning the creation
of a national base of specialized
national teaching cadres confrming
the quality of these graduate
assistants and their practical
and academic competencies.
He said : “from this springs the
idea of sending them abroard to
study at outstanding American

universities such as Harvard,
Stanford, MIT, George Washington,
North Carolina, Illinois and other
American Universities that are
classifed among the best 20
universities in the world�?.
Dr. Abdullah Saad Al-Khanbashi
indicated that the program
contributed to achieving high rates
of emiratization in the teaching
staf of the University which reached
43% in the Faculty of Education,
36% the Faculty of Humanities &
Social Sciences, 38% in the Faculty
of Law, and 25% in the Faculty of
Medicine and Health Sciences.
The Graduate Assistant Afairs unit
at the University supervises the
academic and administrative afairs
of the graduate assistants and it
is this entity that is responsible
for implementing the policies
and programs through which the
university develops and enhances
national competencies academically
and professionally so that they
can return to continue developing
the Nation and the University.
The Unit also attracts and recruits
academically distinguished National
graduates to prepare and qualify
them to continue their studies and
obtain the Master and Ph.D degrees.
Its also selects graduate assistants
based on criteria among which are;
academic distinction, character,
readiness to study abroad, and
commitment to Arabic & Islamic
culture all of which are qualities
that make the graduate assistant an
ambassador of the values, traditions
and customs of the UAE Nation.
