On September 15, 2011 at the Al
Bahr Palace in Dubai, the UAE Vice
President, Prime Minister and
Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh
Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
and with the attendance of Dubai
Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan
bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh
Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan,
Minister of Higher Education and
Scientifc Research, met the Vice
Chancellors, Presidents, Deans
and Faculty Ofcials representing
national universities and colleges.
He expressed his pleasure and pride
in the assembly of the nation’s
academics that are shaping the
future of the beloved homeland
for future generations. He stressed
during his address that they are
the force of the Emirates, its future
and national wealth. He and the
Universities’ leaders also discussed
educational and university matters
and the importance of learning and
education as a tool of advancement
and prosperity of the country.
Sheikh Mohammed said further
that he hailed the actions of the
country’s founder, the late Sheikh
Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, in
establishing UAE University in Al Ain
during the early days of the union
and which is now listed among the
top 400 universities in the world. He
added “We are, through the process
of building and focusing on quality
of education and its techniques,
developing people who are creative,
capable of giving, and follow
scientifc and logical thinking�?.
His Highness called on the country’s
sons and daughters to work hard
to advance the development and
standing of the country at all levels,
and in order to realize this aim we
should concentrate on education,
creativity and excellence. He also
mentioned: “Avoid burdening
yourselves with doubt that could
inhibit your purpose. Make your
present day better than yesterday
and be optimistic for the future
and do not let your subconscious
lead you or make your decisions
nor control your life�?. His Highness
directed to educators: “Universities,
colleges and higher education
institutes are where leaders and
scholars emerge, hence you must
develop your universities and
higher educational institutions
and provide all moral and material
support and assistance�?.
His Highness, UAE Vice President,
Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,
expressed his satisfaction with the
international rankings achieved
by our national universities and
stressed we should continue on
this path since education is an
infnite commitment flled with
aspirations and ultimate ambitions.
His Highness also directed educators
to heed attention to sons and
daughters of the country who are
studying in higher education and
to orient them to their optimal
majors, study methods and to
utilize advanced technology to
assure a better future for them
and their brothers and sisters
of the coming generations.
