- National Semiconductor Research
Center
The Colleges of IT and Engineering
organized and hosted a workshop
of 5 UAE universities to pursue the
establishment of a joint Center in
Semiconductors and Microelectronics.
Nearly 50 professors from the following
universities participated in this workshop
at UAEU: Khalifa University, Masdar
Institute of Science and Technology,
American University of Sharjah, and New
York University Abu Dhabi.
Research Grants and Awards
Emirates Foundation Science &
Technology Awards
The UAEU won 16 new research grant
awards from the Emirates Foundation.
- Qatar Foundation
Dr. Najah AbuAli, from the College of
IT is the lead Principal Investigator on
the grant “Remote Monitoring over
Sustainable Wireless Networks,�? which
was awarded under the 4th cycle
of the Qatar Foundation’s National
Priorities Research Program (NPRP). Also
participating in the research grant are
researchers from Qatar University and
Queen’s University, Canada.
Multi-disciplinary Research
Centers
Through 2011-12, UAEU has developed
a strategy of creating areas of research
excellence, to harness the research
strength that already exist across the
discipline areas needed to solve some
of the most challenging issues for the
nation. Several research concentrations
are planned, and two have come to
fruition in the past year.
- Water Research Center
The University Council approved the
establishment of the “UAEU Water
Center�?, with the aim of solving a range
of critical problems related to water
management and use in the UAE. To
achieve this, the new Center integrates
the University’s capabilities in a large
range of discipline areas across Science,
Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine and
Information Technology. In response to
the call by the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi,
this Center will focus attention on the
water issue and initiate a Water Summit
in January 2013. The Center is already
attracting interest from ADWEA, the Abu
Dhabi Environmental Agency, the AL Ain
Municipality, and has established a number
of international partners.
